Step-by-Step Process Breakdown
Building a pool is an exciting journey, and we’re here to guide you through it. Here’s what you can expect from the pool construction process with All Aqua Pools, broken down into clear, manageable stages. Each phase is designed to ensure that we meet your vision while adhering to timelines, budgets, and high-quality standards.
a. Initial Consultation & Vision Planning
The first step in building your dream pool is a one-on-one meeting with Nils Erickson, our founder, or one of our lead designers. During this consultation, we’ll take the time to truly understand your goals, lifestyle, and the vision you have for your backyard.
We’ll also review your property, measure your lot, and evaluate any site-specific factors that could impact the design, such as access points, terrain, and existing landscaping. We’ll discuss features you want, such as a spa, sun shelf, or automation, and provide you with a preliminary budget based on your preferences.
Once we have a good understanding of your vision, we will proceed to create a custom 3D design that reflects everything we discussed.
b. Site Survey & Feasibility Review
After the initial consultation, we move on to a more detailed evaluation of your property. This includes obtaining your property survey or assisting with one through our trusted partner, longsurveying.com. The site survey is essential for ensuring that we comply with all local zoning laws, county setbacks, HOA requirements, and any environmental regulations, especially if you’re building near the coast.
At this stage, we also assess any potential challenges, such as pool access or space restrictions, and confirm the feasibility of your project. We’ll discuss these details with you, making sure you understand any limitations and adjustments that may be required before we move forward.
c. Design & Proposal Presentation
With all the necessary information in hand, we move on to creating a customized 3D rendering of your pool design. During our second meeting, we’ll present the design on our laptops, allowing you to see exactly how your pool will look within the context of your property. You’ll get a detailed overview of the design, including materials, features (e.g., spas, sun shelves, automation), and layout options.
Once you approve the design, we’ll provide you with the final proposal documents, including color selections, pool materials, and a breakdown of all associated costs. If needed, we can also help with selecting finishes, lighting, and other aesthetic details.
d. Permitting & Engineering
Once the design is approved, we begin the permitting and engineering phase. All Aqua Pools takes care of all the necessary permits for you, including any permits required by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for oceanfront properties. We work closely with structural and aquatic engineers to ensure your pool is both safe and durable.
Our team handles everything, from the paperwork to communicating with regulatory bodies, saving you time and effort. You can rest assured that your project will be fully compliant with local laws and environmental regulations.
e. Construction Timeline & Kickoff
With permits in hand, it’s time to schedule the pool build. Our team will walk you through the schedule and introduce you to your dedicated project manager, who will be your main point of contact throughout the entire process. Your project manager will provide you with a timeline and discuss the steps involved.
After the pre-construction meeting, we’ll begin by marking out the pool area, bringing in the excavation crew, and starting the initial groundwork. From here, we will communicate regularly with you through each phase, ensuring that you are always informed and involved.
f. Build Phase Updates
During the construction phase, you’ll receive timeline-based check-ins and progress updates via our client portal. The portal offers real-time photos, updates, and approvals, allowing you to track the progress of each phase, from excavation to plumbing, steel installation, tile work, and pool decking.

g. Final Walkthrough & Handoff
Once construction is complete, we’ll conduct a final walkthrough to ensure everything is up to our high standards. We’ll review your pool, check for any minor adjustments, and go over the operation of the pool systems, including automation, cleaning, heaters, and safety features.
Our Pool School is part of the handoff process, where we teach you how to properly maintain your pool, use the automated systems, and address common maintenance needs. After everything is set up and you’re fully trained, we’ll officially hand over the keys to your new pool, and you can begin enjoying your backyard oasis.
What You’ll Need to Provide
To ensure a smooth and timely process, we ask that you provide the following:
- Property Survey: A copy of your property survey helps us assess any potential limitations or requirements related to zoning and setbacks.
- Inspiration or Feature Preferences: Sharing photos or ideas you have for your pool can help us design a pool that reflects your vision.
- HOA Paperwork (if applicable): If you live in a community with a homeowners association, please provide the necessary paperwork for approval.
- Access for Inspections and Site Visits: We’ll need access to your property for inspections, site evaluations, and construction phases.
- Decision-Maker(s) Available for Material Approvals: Since custom pools involve selecting materials, finishes, and features, we ask that the main decision-maker is available to approve selections.
